Urban Safari
June 19, 2004 -- Forget you're a tourist and be a New Yorker, for a couple of hours at least. That is the goal of Urban Safari. Long time resident and filmmaker Peter Guzzardo takes you on a walk about the West Village where you will live life in the present. No history lessons here, just food, drink, friends, and lots of laughs. "This is not a walking tour", says Peter, "This is Real Life, this is what I love to do. Show people a good time in the greatest city in the world. " And the rest, really is history.
During his filmmaking years, Peter released twelve feature films, directed one and produced two. "My claim to fame, he says, is discovering The Smithereens, David Ducovney, and James Gandolfini. "I really can't take full credit for Gandolfini. Casting director, Ellen Parks brought him in for an audition when we were making a picture called "Italian Movie" with Rita Moreno and Michael DellaFemina. Jimmy blew us away, but the director didn't want him, so we did what all good producers do, we begged and begged and finally got our way. He played a low level loan shark from Brooklyn. We paid his union dues, rent, and scale plus 10 . Right after that he got the Sopranos and Italian Movie wound up with MGM. There is a lot more to the story but I like to tell that walking..."
Peter's film days aren't over yet. He has a Reality show and six feature projects in "development" and Urban Safari is looking pretty good as a prospect for Reality tv. "for twenty bucks, you can't go wrong."
